With a population of 250 million people, 17,000 islands, five (5) religions, and 1,128 tribes, Indonesia is a big country that has the economic level at number one (1) in Southeast Asia and number three (3) in Asia after China and India (source: EIU).
Indonesia is recognized by the world as a democratic state that will continue to evolve with the potential of abundant natural resources and charming tourism location. The island of Bali is a favorite tourist destination in the world for over 10 years.
Advancement of age and globalization encourage Indonesia to have competent human resources and able to compete with workers from abroad. This can be achieved by an increase in education which becomes the foundation and the early stage of the progress of a country.
The quality and achievements of Indonesian students are already well known in the world, as evidenced by the experience of winning various academic competition at international level such as the International Mathematic Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPO), and International Chemistry Olympiad (ICO), as well as various international academic competitions. In addition, Indonesian students are required to be proficient in English, creative thinking and innovative, and also supported by academic ability. One solution that can be taken is to study abroad.
To answer these needs, there are various alternatives for Indonesian students who want to continue studying abroad. One way is to undergo a course of one (1) or two (2) years in Indonesia at first, namely the Foundation program, Diploma, or University Transfer Program and then transfer and resume the Bachelor study in the United States, Australia, and the UK, as well as Singapore.
- Easier Transition to the Foreign Education System.
Study for the first one (1) or two (2) years in Indonesian institution helps students to make the transition better from the Indonesian education system to education system abroad. Institution Pathway in Indonesia usually has a learning system that is similar to the country of origin, but usually in relatively smaller classes so that the interaction between faculty and students becomes more intensive. The language used in the introductory lecture in Pathway institutions in Indonesia is English. This means that students are accustomed and no longer shocked when they go to college abroad. Academic adaptation is expected to be smoother because the students are still in an environment close to their family and friends.
- Education Quality that Guaranteed
Curriculum applied in the Indonesian institutions have standards and quality of education equivalent to institutions abroad. Usually, pathway institutions that offer programs in Indonesia already have a partner university or subsequent studies. The study programs that are taught are relevant and designed to be fully transferred to universities abroad. Similarly, the existence of high-quality teaching, high-quality academic staff, adequate teaching, and learning facilities and student support services become one of the considerations to begin studying in Indonesia before continuing to study abroad.
- Reduce Time and Cost
With lectures in Indonesia for one (1) – two (2) years, of course, students can save the cost of daily travel and living costs, especially for students who are still living with their family. Similarly, the savings in tuition fees for courses offered by some Indonesian institutions have the same quality of education, but more affordable than the programs offered at foreign institutions. Typically, Foundation and Diploma programs can each be completed within 8 to 12 months, so the total time to complete the Bachelor courses may be less than three (3) years for those who are interested to settle in Australia or Singapore. As for the UK and the USA, usually the study programs will run for a total of three (3) – four (4) years.
