Pre-Master’s in Mechatronic Engineering to Simon Fraser University. Fraser International College (FIC) is a private college located in Burnaby, Canada and operates under agreement with Simon Fraser University. The college provides pathway programs, both undergraduates and graduates pathways, for study at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Vancouver, Canada. One of the newest programs offered in the college is a Pre-Master’s Program (PMP) that will lead to the Professional Master’s in Mechatronic Engineering at Simon Fraser University.
The program is the first PMP in Canada that guarantees students to progress to a master’s degree in engineering. It is also an excellent option for students who want to work as an engineer in Canada.
Mechatronics is a multi-disciplinary engineering field that combines three areas of study: mechanical, electrical and computer engineering. The market for new mechatronic products is expanding rapidly in all industry sectors, including in consumer products and electronics, medical, automotive, industrial and aerospace. There is a high demand of mechatronics engineers due to their comprehensive educational training in mechanical, electronics and computer engineering. For example, mechatronics engineers have the necessary skills to design a modern car with integrated electronics and hybrid technology, which is why they are in such high demand.
The PMP program will be completed in 13 weeks and then students will continue undertaking the master’s degree for 16 months. To apply for the program, prospective students must completed bachelor’s degree in one of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical/electronic, mechatronic engineering, engineering science, and manufacturing and robotics engineering with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or equivalent. Students should meet the satisfactory completion of FIC language standards: an IELTS™ minimum score of 6.5 overall (with no band below 6.0). Students are not required to have any previous work experience and also GMAT or GRE results. Successful applicants will receive a combined Letter of Offer for the PMP in Mechatronics Engineering at the college and the Professional Master’s in Engineering Program at SFU. Transfer to the Professional Master’s in Engineering Program is guaranteed upon completing the PMP with a GPA of 3.0.
The PMP in Mechatronics Engineering at FIC is designed to prepare students for the challenges of studying in Master’s degree. Students will study a university-designed program, taught by university lecturers, in a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere on the Simon Fraser University (SFU) campus. Once students have successfully completed their studies in the college, they will be prepared for entry into the Professional Master’s in Engineering program at SFU. The college provides a learning environment that utilizes teaching methods designed for international students, with smaller class sizes (just 36 students per lecture) and additional contact time with the lecturers.
