1. Student Visa & Health Insurance

The university will take care of your Student Pass application. Student Pass is used as an admission for students. Application for Student's Pass must be approved before you arrive in Malaysia. Students must bring a document stating that the application for a Student Pass is approved and a letter of admission from the university.

The university will help you manage the process of issuance of Student Card at the Immigration Department which is called i-Kad. The i-Kad process costs RM 50.

The institution of your choice will need to represent you to sign the Personal Bond (a kind of bond). For students from Indonesia will be charged at RM 500. This fee will be refunded after you finish college.

2. Accommodation

Quite a lot of accommodation options are available in Malaysia for international students. Among others are :

• On-campus accommodation

Most universities provide on-campus accommodation for international students. Compared with other countries, on-campus accommodation in Malaysia is very flexible and is equipped with excellent facilities at an affordable price.

Campus accommodation fee is RM 800 – RM 1,500 per month, depending on location, university, and facilities. By living on campus, students can save on transportation costs because most campuses in Malaysia provide a free shuttle bus service to the university and the surrounding area.

• Off-campus accommodation

The cost of renting a place to stay in Malaysia is low when compared with other countries. The following is the approximate cost of rent per month in the Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya :

Rooms RM 250 – RM 400

Condominium / Apartment RM 700 – RM 1,500

Two floors house RM 1,200 – RM 2,000

Detailed information about the accommodation can be found on the bulletin board in the campus area or minimarket around campus where students who will soon graduate usually offer their rooms for rent. You can also get information on accommodation in the property agent, or on the websites of housing.

3. Part Time Work

International students who have Student Pass are allowed to work part-time, during school holidays, including the semester breaks or holidays of more than seven (7) days. Therefore, the choice of the workplace for students is quite limited, namely restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets and hotels.

To obtain permission to work part-time, the students must submit a written submission to the Malaysian immigration authorities through the school. The application fee is RM 120.

The salary earned during the jobs is around RM 4 – RM 8 per hour.

1. Primary & Secondary Schools

In Malaysia, there are several types of schools namely the National High School that uses Malay language, and the National Type Schools that uses English, Mandarin or Tamil as the medium of instruction.

In general, the length of primary education in Malaysia is the same as in Indonesia, which is equal to six (6) years. At the end of the sixth year, students will take the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) test. After graduating UPSR exam, students continue to secondary school that is divided into two (2) levels. Levels 1 through 3 are called the Medium Low or Form 1-3; while levels 4 and 5 are called SMA or Form 4-5 where students are offered special programs such as science, literature, and technical.

2. Program Level Six (Form 6)

In Level Six (Form 6) after elementary school, students are given two (2) options of program: science or literature; which lasts for one (1) year and six (6) months. The ultimate test of this level determines whether incoming students to the university level, the exam is called Ujian Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).

3. Pre-University Education

Pre-University Education is a further education after high school education in which students are prepared to enter university; such as Six Levels (Form 6), Matriculation and Special Education. The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam is held as a condition of acceptance of this Pre-University education.

Fees for Pre-University Program (Foundation) average about RM 15,000 – RM 20,000 per year.

4. Matriculation Program

Only in Matriculation program that graduates of this foundation course will get a certificate of completion, which is valid only in universities in Malaysia.

5. Professional Degree Program (Undergraduate Degree)

Malaysia is known as a pioneer in the twinning program in the 1980s, in collaboration with foreign universities from the United States, Australia, Britain, Germany, France, New Zealand, and others.

This program is better known as the 2+1, where after students complete two (2) years of learning programs in the country, they can continue next year in overseas institutions to earn a degree.

In addition to program 2+1, there is also 3+0 programs of foreign universities through a private institution located in Malaysia. In this case, foreign universities grant permission and are a partner to institutions located in the country of origin.

Tuition at the university ranges from RM 20,000 – RM 25,000 per year.

6. Professional Graduate Program (Postgraduate Degree)

Graduate Program consists of a Graduate Diploma (1 year), Master Degree (1-2 years) and Doctoral Degree (3-4 years).
