The Faculty of Education and Social Work of the University of Auckland have a variety of postgraduate study programs to improve the students practice and career prospects. The faculty offers Postgraduate Study in Education program which is ideal for students who have completed a degree and want to pursue advanced studies related to their careers. There are four types of degree that can be undertaken within the program:
This postgraduate pathway program is designed to provide an opportunity to enter into postgraduate study and acquire a higher qualification in education. This certificate program can be completed in one semester (full-time).
This program prepares graduates to manage leadership roles or specialist teaching roles in schools and to be familiar with New Zealand’s educational policy and practice. The degree can be completed in one year.
In the program, students will have the opportunity to undertake research in an area of interest. This one-year degree allows students to evaluate, enlighten, and improve their knowledge in analysing and understanding educational research.
This program is established for mathematics teachers who plan to be senior practitioners in mathematics education at the primary, secondary or tertiary level. During the one-year study, students will pull together research, professional experience, and mathematical knowledge to develop essential approaches to mathematics teaching and learning.
All programs within the Postgraduate Study in Education required a Graduate Diploma in Teaching or a four-year degree, such as a Bachelor of Education. Prospective students are also expected to currently hold a teaching position or have two to three years of teaching experience. International students should meet the satisfactory completion of the University of Auckland language standards: academic IELTS™ overall score of 7.0 and all bands 7.0 or a TOEFL®iBT overall score of 90 plus a written score of 21.
