How to Get “UK Tier 4 Student Visa” for Indonesian Student

Getting UK Tier 4 Student Visa is not difficult if we understand the procedure and do it right. In a seminar entitled “Preparing Your Student Visa” at UK & Europe Education Expo on Sunday, 11 February 2018 in Jakarta, UK Visas and Immigration officer shared important tools for getting UK Tier 4 Student Visa:

In applying for a student visa, students must complete a number of documents, including:

  • The current passport that is still valid.
  • Valid Certificate of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference.
  • All certificates of original education (diploma or certificate of education).
  • Evidence You can pay your first-year fees up to nine months of living expenses.
  • Evidence of your relationship with your parent or legal guardian if funds for your program are held on their behalf.
  • An Academic Technological Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate Scheme. Your university or college will notify you if this is required.
  • All non-English supporting documents should be translated into English.
  • A Tuberculosis test certificate should be from Premiere Hospital.

In addition to documentary evidence, you must also include a proof of English proficiency to be able to obtain a Tier 4 visa indicated from an English certificate as stated on your CAS (requested by the institution or used for obtaining a letter of acceptance at the university).

If the institution is a Non-Higher Education Institute, you must provide a Secure English Language Test certificate unless you meet exceptions (for example, a Level 4 visa (Child). You also do not need to prove your English knowledge if you are originating or your previous education is taken from one of the countries listed on the www.gov.uk/tier-4-general-visa/knowledge-of-english .

 

Visa Application Process

Before attaching all documents to apply for a visa, you should check all necessary requirements, such as CAS, ab evidence you can pay for the course, and the original education certificate. After that, you can pay and set an appointment with the visa officer online at www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa.

Furthermore, you will receive an e-mail for the confirmation of appointment including a visa application form for printing. Do not forget to take the document with you at the Visa Application Center (VAC) along with supporting documents and arrive on time according to your appointment. Late tolerance is only 30 minutes.

The visa work process could last for about three weeks. If you want faster than that, you can use Priority Services at an additional cost of Rp 3.6 million.

If your visa application is accepted, you will get a sticker on your passport valid for 30 days. That means you are given the opportunity to go to the UK within 30 days. If less than this period, you must apply for a visa from the very first start. You will also get Biometric Residence Permits, a residence permit in the UK after you get a 30-day sticker on your passport. You can pick up the card at the university or at the nearest post office where you live in the UK.

If your visa application is rejected, the VFS will give a letter with a specific description of why your visa was rejected to your e-mail.

You should apply early for getting UK Tier 4 Student Visa, about three months from departure. 30-day validity related to the date on CAS or your travel date in this period.

If you have not got a CAS number, you can also start your application online and save the necessary documents mid-way. Make sure all documents are A4 size paper. Do not forget to always check email or spam to get a notification about your visa progress.

 

Student Interview

All students applying for a Tier 4 visa will be interviewed at the Visa Application Center.

“The student interview is random. The assessor just wants to see basic English skills and make sure if you are the same person who applied to the university.

The topic of the interview also concerns the course you are proposing, the reasons why you choose to study in the UK, how you fund your studies, your previous research and future work aspirations.

If the interview appraiser is not satisfied with the results of the interview, he will usually call you back by phone.
