Starting July 1st, 2016, Australia began to implement changes on the assessment of the maintenance of student visa and also of student guardian visa. The changes, called Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF), will replace Streamlined Visa Processing (SVP). The main difference is that SSVF now has lesser subclasses from a total of eight (8) to two (2) namely Subclass 500 (Student Visa) and Subclass 590 (Guardian Student Visa).
Then, what are the other changes regarding SSVF?
1. Visa Application Assessment
The assessment is no longer done based on Country Immigration Risk matrix but rather by a combination of Country Immigration Risk and Education Provider Immigration Risk. These matrix group two (2) categories: Streamlined and Regular. The second difference is the category of documents provided students Streamlined categories fewer than Regular.
2. Increase in Cost of Living
Beside the changes on the assessment process and visa applications, there is also a change in the standard of living cost that, which currently is AUD 19,830/year or an increase of AUD 1,220/year.
3. English Qualifications
Students who will take care of their Australian visas that are included in the Streamlined category do not need to demonstrate their English language qualification as one of the requirements in the visa application. However, this requirement applies for student visa applications that are in the Regular category.
4. Through Visa Filing Online
As of July 1st, 2016, all student visa applications and student guardian viss must be submitted online through Immi Account and no longer to be done manually (paper-based application).
