Some people think that scoring 9.0 on IELTS Reading is very hard for non-native English speakers. All the tricky vocabularies are one of the reasons why people do not seem confident enough to get the perfect score. Yes, you will encounter some unknown words on the IELTS™ Reading Test, but it is not something to be afraid of. Not even every native speaker understands each word in the IELTS™ Reading Test.
There are 3 reading passages in the IELTS™ Reading Test with different difficulties for each section; first section would be the easiest and the third section would be the hardest. The purpose of IELTS™ Reading is to test your ability in understanding the passages. Unfortunately, most of the test-takers failed to get higher points because of some very simple mistakes and not being careful. That is the reason why in this guide, I have gathered some IELTS™ Reading tips that hopefully will help you to get a high score in IELTS™ Reading. Here are IELTS Reading Tips for band 9 (part 1)
Skim over and scan, then watch for the answers
Skimming refers to looking only for the main ideas. You don’t need to read every word attentively. Remember, you just need to answer the questions so skim over and scan the text and then start looking for the answers.
Even though it sounds sensible and seems to work when you practice or in classroom, when put under exam conditions, stress and time pressure cause you to easily miss otherwise obvious points. Instead, I would suggest you to read the complete passage fully but rapidly. You can study how to be able to do “Speed Reading”.
Control your timing
During the test, you only have 60 minutes to read three texts and answer 40 questions. You will not get extra time for filling your answer sheet, so make sure to manage your time properly.
Make sure to check time and to get ahead of the schedule, this will help you boost your confidence under the limited time pressure.
Check for spelling errors
Check your spelling before writing your answer on the answer sheet. You will get zero points for misspelled answers.
