Chemical Engineering University of Massachusetts, Lowel

Chemical Engineering University of Massachusetts, Lowel

Chemical Engineering University of Massachusetts, Lowel accredited by the American Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the Washington Accord has a proud heritage, spanning more than a century, of providing outstanding, practical and affordable engineering education. In the new millennium, Lowell is again positioned as the cradle for the New Economy: a revolution in large-scale implementation of nanoscale technology, which is expected to have broad and beneficial impacts on potentially every facet of our lives. With a new Center of Excellence for Nanomanufacturing funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center for High-Rate Manufacturing funded by the National Science Foundation, UMass Lowell’s Francis College of Engineering is poised to be a major leader in nanotechnology and nanomanufacturing. A major engineering initiative in bioprocessing and biopharmaceuticals is also underway.

Achievements
• UMass Lowell is ranked among the top 200 research universities by US News & World Report.
• Forbes ranks UMass Lowell as one of the top 650 undergraduate institutions in the United States.
• UMass Lowell is a Tier 1 National University offering a full range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s and doctoral degrees.
• UMass Lowell has been accredited by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) International since 1987, the highest-level of business school accreditation. UMass Lowell was also named one of America’s best business schools by The Princeton Review, a US-based standardized test preparation and admissions consulting company.
• UMass Lowell is also accredited by ABET (American Board of Engineering and Technology), which is a signatory of the Washington Accord.

For students who are interested in applying directly to University of Massachusetts, Lowell for their bachelor of engineering programs, these following admission requirements are to be expected but not limited to :
• completed application form
• SAT 1 test, TOEFL/IELTS
• Academic transcripts 4 years of B average
• Good extra curricular activities
• Meet the application deadline (varies from year to year)

Navitas at UMass Lowell offers a University Pathway Program (UPP) and a Pre-Master’s Program (PMP), which are both designed to prepare international students for university studies in the United States. The UPP program structure consists of credit courses, and provides an academic and cultural bridge form your high school experience to studying for a university degree in the United States. The PMP prepares students for graduate degree courses and programs.

Chemical Engineering is about the study of math and natural sciences. Chemical engineering majors learn to develop products for businesses, government, and consumers. They also look for solutions to regional or global problems, such as pollution, Like most engineers, chemical engineers turn technological advances in the lab into useful materials and services beyond the university walls. As typical courses in this major include general chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, calculus, differential equations, computer programming, statistics, microbiology and materials engineering; therefore students who onsider this major are generally those who are good at attention to detail, creativity, critical reading/thingking, math, memorizing, organizing, quantitative analysis and writing skills. One of the most important courses you take as a major is energy and material balances, i.e. the basis for the design and evaluation of biological, chemical, energy and environmental processes.

So, the next question will then be what do chemical engineers do?
Chemical engineers convert the discoveries that physical or biological scientists make in the laboratory into products used by industry, the military, and ordinary consumers. In addition, they play an important role in the new areas of biotechnology (the development of medical treatments), nanotechnology (the science of miniaturization), and information technology. In short, as a chemical engineering major, you are trained to design and develop many of the processes and products necessary for modern industrial society.

With a degree in chemical engineering potential careers are available in the environmental, pharmaceutical, materials, fuel and specialty chemical industries. Positions in the alternative energy, biotechnology and nanotechnology fields are also rapidly expanding.

Anyone who goes into engineering can look forward to lifelong learning about leading-edge science.
Being an engineer in the U.S. can be fun as well as rewarding, especially with the newly implemented S.T.E.M internship program.
