Formally founded in 1971 and opened in 1975, Griffith University is a public research university that introduced Australia's first degree in environmental science and Asian studies. Named after Sir Samuel Walker Griffith, who was twice Premier of Queensland, it has now grown to become a comprehensive university, offering over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across 10 study areas. Having more than 45.000 students from 124 countries, Griffith is the ninth largest higher education provider in Australia.

Griffith campuses are located in Nathan (main campus), Gold Coast, Logan, Mt.
