Formally founded in 1971 and opened in 1975, Griffith University is a public research university that introduced Australia's first degree in environmental science and Asian studies. Named after Sir Samuel Walker Griffith, who was twice Premier of Queensland, it has now grown to become a comprehensive university, offering over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across 10 study areas.
