Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University was founded in 2006 as a result from the partnership between the University of Liverpool and Xi'an Jiaotong University. It is a young, independent university located in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China and the only international collaborative university in China that offer dual award from University of Liverpool and XJLTU for the students upon completion of an undergraduate program.

Among the first graduates, 96% were admitted into world-famous universities for postgraduate and doctoral studies and of them more than 10% into universities ranking among the top 10 in the world. There were also students who were employed or served internships in world-leading companies, including Morgan Stanley, the Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC Bank, Ernst & Young and KPMG.

Over 5,000 foreign-owned and Fortune 500 companies are based in Suzhou Industrial Park including Siemens, KPMG, Alstom, and HSBC. These companies provide XJTLU students with numerous internship opportunities and job positions. In addition, many XJTLU graduates go on to Masters and PhD study at the world's top-ranked universities.

The University now has over 450 academic staff from 50 countries. All academic staff must have a PhD from a well-known and well respected university in the relevant research field. In total, XJLTU offers 30 undergraduate degree programs and 28 master degrees. The university primarily focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture and Business which all taught in English except for general and basic courses.

XJLTU is located in the World heritage city of Suzhou on China's east coast. The campus grows up in a beautiful environment with city's rich cultural traditions and its rapid economic development.
