The university was founded in 1825. However, the university was granted the consent to operate as a university in 1992. An institution with more than 25,000 students, the university, as the name suggests, is located in Liverpool. Today, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a public university with 25,000 students.
Despite being a new university, the university has made its marks by appearing in Times Higher Education's "150 under 50" list. It means the university is one of the top 150 universities under the age of 50. The university ranks in the 101-150th tier based on the list, meaning that it may be new but deemed quite amazing already.
Speaking of programs offered, LJMU offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The university is made up of six faculties in the areas of Education, Community and Leisure; Health and Applied Social Sciences; Media, Arts and Social Science; Science; and Technology and Environment. LJMU has been acknowledged by the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) for the excellence in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, General Engineering, and Architecture and Built Environment.
The university is made up of three campuses: the City Campus, the Mount Pleasant Campus, and the I M Marsh Campus. Currently, a major improvement is taking place at the university. The three campuses are being bettered as there will be a 70-metre running track and new research laboratories.
