The University of Portsmouth is a university in the city of Portsmouth, England. It opened on 1908, and was previously known as Portsmouth Polytechnic until 1992, when it was granted university status through the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. It is a modern university with a growing reputation for teaching and research. It has strengths in applied research and a strong record of student employability. The university is split between two main areas, the University Quarter, which is centred around the Portsmouth Guildhall area, and the Langstone Campus.

University of Portsmouth is one of the world's top 100 new universities in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2017. Their performance indicators show that 96% of their graduates are working or in further study within six months of graduation. The percentage of their graduates in professional/managerial level roles has increased by 3% to 75%, which means Portsmouth is above the sector average in the UK.
