Monash University was established in 1958. Named after a famous figure in military, Sir John Monash, the first campus was located in Clayton, Melbourne. With the university describing itself as being youthful, optimistic, enthusiastic, and accessible -, Monash believes that a better society can be created through education and research.
Monash undoubtedly has a laudable reputation in the education world. Apart from being a member of Group of Eight, Monash may pride on being ranked 73rd in the world by Times Higher Education (2015-2016). Monash offers a wide range of courses grouped in ten faculties: Art and Design; Arts; Business and Economic; Education; Engineering; Information Technology; Law; Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences; Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; and Science - with Business and Economics being the most enrolled faculty.
With a total of 54,290 students, 18,112 of them are made up of international students. The percentage between postgraduate and undergraduate students is 42% and 58%. By subject, Monash is highly ranked for its Pharmacy & Pharmacology as it is the fourth best in the world by QS World University Rankings. Other faculties that stand out are Business and Social Sciences.
