The Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is a university in New Zealand. Established in 1985 as Auckland Technical School, it later received the university status in 2000. For branding purposes, since 2010 the Auckland University of Technology refers to itself as AUT University. It focuses on providing student-centred, innovative, stimulating and responsive learning experiences that prepare students for an exciting future.
AUT is New Zealand´s second largest and fastest-growing university, offering over 250 comprehensive ranges of degrees and research. In the 2016 QS World University Ranking, AUT was ranked as 441-450. AUT is world-ranked in the following subjects: Art & Design, Accounting and Finance, Communication and Media Studies, Computer Science and Information Systems, and Education. Programmes are developed in conjunction with industry to reflect workforce needs, and work-integrated learning is a central feature of most undergraduate programmes.This focus on work-integrated learning yields results, with AUT ranked #1 for Employability in New Zealand (QS Employability Rankings 2015). AUT also has a five-star rating from QS for Internationalization, Teaching, Graduate employability, Inclusiveness and Facilities.
Its primary campus is on Wellesley Street in Auckland's Central business district (CBD). AUT has three secondary campuses: North Shore, South, and the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health (AUT Millennium Campus). Their three vibrant campuses and three specialist facilities located across Auckland cater for over 28,000 students, including nearly 4,000 international students from 90 countries.
Auckland is New Zealand´s economic hub, and is ranked the third best city in the world for quality of living (Mercer 2015 Quality of Living Survey). With a population of 1.5 million people, Auckland has all the advantages of a big city while still offering clean air, golden beaches, easy travel and friendly people.
Getting to AUT main campus in Wellesley Street is not hard as students can choose for many land transport options from Auckland International Airport, such as by taxi which ride will only take about 30 minutes.
